Ron Hastings grew up in Kitchener, Ontario but went on to enjoy a successful career as a stage actor all across Canada. He had devoted more than four decades of his life to the performing arts and was a highly respected member of theatrical companies at Ottawa’s National Arts Centre, the St. Lawrence Centre in Toronto, and the Stratford Festival to name a few. But it was in the single season he spent at the Charlottetown Festival on Prince Edward Island, playing the role of Matthew in the annual production of Anne Of Green Gables, that he took his greatest pride. It was during that season that he bought some property on the island that became his home when he decided to retire in the late 1990s. He died in Charlottetown after a brief illness.
