Arthur Hill was a stage and screen actor with experience in the United States and England. In 1948 he moved to England where he built a reputation for himself both as a fine stage actor along with occasional film roles. He moved to New York in the mid-1950s and his earliest TV experience dates to December 1958 when he appeared in The Enemies, a production of The United States Steel Hour. In 1963, he won both the New York Drama Critics Award and the Tony Award as Best Dramatic Actor for originating the role of George, the weary husband married to loudmouthed Martha, played by the legendary Uta Hagen, in the Edward Albee play, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? The play had opened on October 13, 1962 at the Billy Rose Theater on Broadway. |
