Based on the award-winning book of the same title by renowned Canadian writer Kevin Major, Hold Fast tells the story of two young Newfoundlanders, Michael and his cousin Curtis. After Michael’s parents are killed in a traffic accident he and his younger brother are sent to live with different relatives. Michael ends up with his Auntie and Uncle in St.Albert, while his younger brother his sent to live with their grandfather in a small Newfoundland outport. At first it looks like Michael might adjust to his new surroundings in spite of his uncle, who rules with an iron hand. But when his uncle`s fist comes down hard once too often, Michael decides to run away, and his cousin Curtis joins him. They sruggle to survive wandering through the harsh, magnificent landscape of Newfoundland on their way to another relative. Hold Fast was selected to close the 2013 St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival. |
