Jean of the Joneses is all about a twenty-something wouldbe writer Jean (Taylour Paige) and about the largely dysfunctional family she is part of. After a string of bad luck, everything from her latest relationship coming to an unceremonious end to few prospects for her chosen career, Jean decides to spend some time with her two aunts, mother, and grandmother Daphne (Michelle Hurst). The lives of these women seems dependent on continuous bickering. One day there’s a knock on the door and the estranged patriarch of the family makes a stupendous entry…by dying on their doorstep. The paramedic, Ray (Mamoudou Athie), who responds to their 911 call falls for the acerbic Jean. His timing is terrible as Jean is just not ready to start a new romance, especially as she begins to unravel years and years of Jones family secrets, some of which may change her life forever. Jean of the Joneses a Canada-US co-production, had its Canadian Premiere at TIFF 2016 |
