Robert Joy may have been born in Montreal but he grew up in Newfoundland and Labrador, which claims him as their own. He attended Oxford as a Rhodes scholar before turning up in New York City determined to have a career as an actor. He began, like so many young actors, Off Broadway, as they say. His first stage role was as Peter Van Daan in The Diary of Anne Frank which ran for almost a year. He made the jump to film immediately and appeared in his first feature just a year later making his debut in Louis Malle`s 1980 film, Atlantic City. Robert is multi-talented and spent three years with the Newfoundland Company CODCO as an actor, writer and composer. He put all of those talents to work, along with being associate producer and star in the 1986 film, The Adventure of Faustus Bidgood which was an independent film he worked on after studying at the Sundance Film Institute. Robert Joy is pictured above as Dr. Sid Hammerback in a publicity still from the series CSI:NY. |
