This may be a story about two brothers, but they are brothers in name only. First there is Paul, a novelist with no novel to his name, who lives off his girlfriend and watches life pass him by. Then there’s Patrick, a manager for a multinational pharmaceutical company who controls his professional and personal life with a firm hand. One warm autumn night, the man who had given them both a famous last name re-enters their lives: their father, François Agira, a celebrated writer. François is worse off than ever. The aging writer is both financially broke and physically broken. The main story centres on a series of highly personal battles as the two brothers try to save their father. Forced to live under the same roof, the three men ultimately find themselves facing an even greater evil than they could have foreseen. Not only must Paul and Patrick improvise the last chapter of their father’s life, they must also come to an understanding about his death. La Vie avec mon père won the Public’s Prize at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic. |
