Willie Lamothe, who started out in life as Guillaume Joachim Lamothe, was a true QuĂ©bec original. He recorded many country and western hit records, appeared in films (winning Canadian Film Awards for La Mort d’un bĂ»cheron and L’Ă‚ge de la machine), and performed in almost all the cabarets and bars in Quebec with his sidekick, guitarist Bobby Hachey. He hosted Le Ranch Ă Willie, a variety show that ran on the TVA Network from 1970–76, and gave a SRO performance at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville in 1976, performing all the songs in French. However, in 1978, at the peak of his success, his career was cut short by an embolism that sidelined him until his death in 1992. |
