Théo is turning 18. Alone, he decides to celebrate by getting drunk on cheap beer and the adrenaline of a brutal punk rock show. He ends the evening, still alone, in a restaurant where he meets Mag, another one of the marginalized young people in today’s society. It doesn’t take long before they start talking about musical preferences and tattoos. While giving his new friend a lift home on a bicycle, Théo is invited to stay for the night. An idyll is gradually born over their encounters. However, Théo isn’t exactly who he seems to be and carries some substantial baggage for a young man. In fact he hides a secret and is preparing to leave his hometown to start anew far away from a life filled with guilt and remorse. If everything isn’t quite as it seems, the title, Fake Tattoos in English, gives a hint of what is to come Les Faux Tatouages received the 2017 Focus Québec/Canada Grand Prize presented at the Festival du nouveau de cinéma in Montréal, and the 2018 Best Screenplay for a Canadian film at the Vancouver Critics Film Circle as well as an honourable Jury Mention at Slamdance 2018. |
