Matthew Rankin’s first feature-length film The Twentieth Century had its World Premiere when it screened in the Midnight Madness program of TIFF 2019. A native of Winnipeg, Montreal-based Rankin studied Québec history at McGill University and at Université Laval before turning to film. His 224 feature, Une langue universelle, aka Universal Language, was selected to represent Canada in the nomination process for Best International Feature Film at the 97th Academy Awards®, to be held on March 2, 2025.
