Tom McCamus was born in Winnipeg but moved with his family to London, Ontario when he was ten. While attending London’s Oakridge Secondary school, he became interested in theatre and went on to the University of Windsor’s school of dramatic art. His on-screen career began in 1985, but it was a performance as a mental patient in the 1991 historical drama Beautiful Dreamers that brought wide critical acclaim. He won a Genie Award in 1993 for Best Performance in a Leading Role for his work in I Love A Man In Uniform, and was nominated for a Genie for his leading role in Long Day’s Journey Into Night, and for his supporting role in The Sweet Hereafter. His performance as Walter Gretzky in Waking Up Wally, brought him a Gemini Award and an ACTRA Award for best actor. Tom McCamus is also a seasoned stage actor, and is a long-standing member of the acting ensembles of the Shaw Festival and the Stratford Festival. |
