Tom McCamus was born in Winnipeg but moved with his family to London, Ontario when he was ten. While attending London`s Oakridge Secondary school, he became interested in theatre and went on to the University of Windsor`s school of dramatic art. His on-screen career began in 1985, but it was a performance as a mental patient in the 1991 historical drama Beautiful Dreamers that brought wide critical acclaim. He won a Genie Award in 1993 for Best Performance in a Leading Role for his work in I Love A Man In Uniform, and was nominated for a Genie for his leading role in Long Day`s Journey Into Night, and for his supporting role in The Sweet Hereafter. His performance as Walter Gretzky in Waking Up Wally, brought him a Gemini Award and an ACTRA Award for best actor. Tom McCamus is also a seasoned stage actor, and is a long-standing member of the acting ensembles of the Shaw Festival and the Stratford Festival. |
