Tom Melissis was the middle kid in a family of five children. He grew up in the Toronto suburb of Scarborough watched over by parents who had come to Canada from Macedonia. He attended Monarch Park Secondary School then enrolled in the theatre school at Ryerson, which he hated and abandoned after just one year. He then went to work for the audiovisual department of a Toronto advertising agency. But performing was still his blood and he moonlighted as a lead vocalist for the rock band The Exploding Tickets. While that proved to be a dead end he took the advice of a friend and auditioned for Toronto’s Second City comedy club which led to a two year stint which led, ultimately, to a career in television and film. He is sometimes credited as Tom Melisses. |
