Actress, singer and author, Louise Portal received a best actress Genie Award nomination for her title role of Cordelia in 1980. In 1987, she played Diane in Denys Arcand`s film The Decline of the American Empire, a performance that earned her a Genie Award for best supporting actress that year. In 1996, her portrayal of Reine in the film Sous-sol by Pierre Gang earned her the Guy-L’écuyer award for best actress at the Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois. On television, Louise Portal played Chantal in Grafffiti and won two Gemini Awards, in 1994 and in 1996. In addition to a career in the theatre, where she has appeared in over fifteen productions, Louise Portal has also written a novel, Jeanne Janvier, published by Éditions Libre Expression, and a play, Où en est le miroir?, co-written with Marie-Louise Dion. She has also composed more than 40 songs and has recorded a number of very successful albums. |
