Reluctant Angel is a charming, romantic comedy with just a touch of darkness at its edges. The tight script keeps surprising revelations well hidden and then doles them out at just the right moments. Cheryl, played by Megan Follows, and Jason (James Gallanders) are smalltime grifters. Cheryl becomes annoyed when Jason, out of sheer boredom, keeps raising the stakes. Everything changes the night she mistakenly thinks she`s has hit a drunk while driving. Turns out that the person she hit, Donald (Jaimz Woolvett), is a kind of philosopher with a heart of gold but an intense selfdestructive streak. Donald believs Cheryl has actually saved his life and therefore could be, quite literally, his guardian angel. This is an uplifting, offbeat story about finding value and hope in a world that doesn’t seem to have much of either to offer.
