Robert Goodier was in the original stage cast of Meet the Navy, a Canadian government initiative during the Second World War as a show to entertain Canadian troops and seaman serving overseas. The show went into rehearsals at the Hart House Theatre at the University of Toronto during the summer of 1943 and was first performed for servicemen in Toronto in September of that year. It travelled to Britain in 1944 and the National Film Board began work on a film version in 1945. In 1980, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Canadian navy, the Nova Scotia government revived Meet the Navy with several members of the original cast. Robert Goodier continued as a stage actor but in the so-called Golden Age of Television he appeared in those early remarkable live productions of Oedipus the King, The Hunted, and The Prince and the Pauper. |
