B: October 26, 1970 in Edmonton, Alberta

Lisa Ryder improbably best known for her role as Beka Valentine, commander of the salvage ship, Eureka Maru, and first officer of the Andromeda Ascendant. Ryder graduated in 1992 from the University of Toronto Theatre School. In addition to her drama degree, she studied ballet at the Edmonton School of Ballet, jazz dance at Toronto’s Metro Movement as well as taking courses in improv at Second City. Equally accomplished in live theater, Ryder has starred in more than 25 plays. For example, after runs across Europe and Canada, Ryder was on stage in Toronto in a production titled Helen Lawrence. She plays what is described as a femme fatale in a multimedia extravaganza that sees Ryder on a bare blue stage onto which everything is projected. There are no sets, no props, just Ryder. The production is part film, part theatre, with an intricate script by Chris Haddock, best known for the CBC drama Da Vinci’s Inquest, and a story by Haddock and visual artist Stan Douglas.
