Ann Shin attended the University of Toronto where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in English Literature. She is an award-winning filmmaker and new media producer whose projects have screened and won awards at festivals including: the San Francisco Film Festival, Montreal World Film Festival, International Documentary Festival of Amsterdam (IDFA), SXSW, New York Festivals. Her documentary The Defector: Escape from North Korea, was nominated for a Gemini Award for Best Performance Doc and in 2014 she was named as recipient of the Canadian Screen Awards’ Diversity Award for her work on that same film. Her short My Enemy, My Brother, was nominated for a 2016 Academy Award®.
