Paul Soles studied psychology at the University of Western Ontario, then worked as a radio announcer, and then as a television news announcer for CFPL in London, Ontario from 1953 to 1963. In the 1950s he was also a cast member of the long-running CBC TV show, The Wayne and Shuster Comedy Hour. He is usually remembered as the host of CBC`s long-running Take Thirty opposite various co-hosts including Anna Cameron, Adrienne Clarkson, Mary Lou Finlay and Hana Gartner. With the recent release of The Spiderman movies a whole new generation discovered Soles when TV networks began running the original Spiderman cartoon series on which he was the voice of Peter Parker, and his alter-ego, Spiderman as well as the voice behind the Fantastic Fakir, Ox and Vulture. Paul Soles is also an accomplished stage actor and was in the world premiere of the musical version of Ragtime. He also played the lead role of Nat in I’m Not Rappaport; Mr Dussel in The Diary of Anne Frank. In 2001 Paul Soles played Shylock at the Stratford Festival production of The Merchant of Venice. Paul Soles was nominated for a Genie Award for his role as “Harvey” in the 1990 film Falling Over Backwards.

Paul Soles won a 2017 Canadian Screen Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Program or Series produced for Digital Media for his work in My 90-Year-Old Roommate. He was 90 when he died in Toronto.
