Stella Meghie made the decision to leave her career in fashion/beauty in 2010 and attended The University of Westminster to pursue her passion in screenwriting. During her first year, she wrote the first draft of the semi-autobiographical feature Jean of the Joneses. Prior to its World Premiere at SXSW, the screenplay won the 2012 Showtime Tony Cox Feature Film Screenplay Competition, and Meghie earned a joint fellowship between Tribeca and Canadian Film Centre in 2014. Jean of the Jonses is loosely based on her personal experiences, and follows 25-year-old Jean and her multi-generational dysfunctional, middle-class Jamaican-American family of women. |
