The basic plot involves a big-city doctor who turns up in the small harbour town of Tickle Cove, Newfoundland that`s in desperate need of a doctor. If the town has a resident doctor it will be able to secure a factory and that will save it from financial ruin. In Tickle Cove a village resident Murray French (Brendan Gleeson) leads the search and once Dr. Paul Lewis shows up, he begins a series of crafty tactics, often involving the whole town, in an effort to seduce the doctor to stay permanently.
