Ralph Thomas is a producer-director-writer who was born in Brazil to Canadian Baptist missionary parents. He grew up in Canada and went to Prairie Bible Institute High in Alberta before moving to Toronto and the Toronto Bible College. He graduated from the University of Toronto in 1961 and began to write for the entertainment pages of the Toronto Star a year later. Thomas stayed with the Star until 1968 when he accepted a position at CBC in Ottawa initially as a story editor and researcher.
