Scott Thompson, pictured at the launch of the 2012 Worldwide Short Film Festival in Toronto, was born in North Bay but grew up in Brampton, Ontario. He enrolled in York University but in his third year was asked to leave for being “disruptive”. He joined the comedy troupe The Love Cats, where he met Mark McKinney and they would go on to be founding members of The Kids in the Hall. They would go onto have have a regular series starting 1989 on CBC, and on HBO in the United States. From HBO the show moved to CBS for its fourth and fifth seasons. He was host of the 2004 Genie Awards. In March 2009, it was announced that Thompson had been diagnosed with B-cell non-Hodgkins gastric lymphoma, an aggressive form of stomach cancer. After four-months of radiation therapy and six rounds of chemotherapy, he said that he was cancer-free. Scott Thompson was part of Death Comes to Town on CBC in 2010 with fellow KITH alumni Dave Foley, Bruce McCulloch, Mark McKinney, and Kevin McDonald. |
