In Un été comme ça (That Kind of Summer), three women are voluntarily taking part in a sex addiction program that lasts just 26 days. Set in a quiet house by a quiet lake, all three are young women, barely out of adolescence. They are supervised by a social worker and, less closely, by Octavia (Anne Ratte-Polle), a German therapist who was herself once treated for sex addiction. The motto of the undertaking is “hypersexuality is not a disease” and the aim (hope might be a better word) is not to heal but rather to enable a frank exploration of different experiences, forms and extremes of desire. The addicts are a mixed bunch. Gaelle (Aude Mathieu), who says everyone calls her Geisha, has a shaven head and multiple piercings and never saw a football team she couldn’t take on at halftime. Leonie (Larissa Corriveau) is a masochist who chooses to spend her day off tied up but is troubled by visions of her father who set her on this path. Eugenie (Laure Giappiconi) does wonderful drawings in the small hours, at least when she isn’t having sex with truck drivers. None of them has any friends. |
