Barbara Williams was actually born on a tugboat sailing to Esperanza, a tiny missionary camp on the remote Northwest coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia. A singer-songwriter-actor, when she was 16, Wiliams was singing and playing guitar in church basements in the small town of Gibsons Landing. A high school teacher saw her potential and cast her in the Tennessee Williams’ play, Suddenly Last Summer, put on by the local drama club. Playing the role of Katherine, Williams won the best actress award at the provincial drama festival, which brought her the opportunity to study theatre at Vancouver City College. There she met John Gray who invited her to join his company Tamahnous, where she did repertory theatre for 5 years, before going on to a career in television and film. |
