Stephen Young, the son of a Toronto financier, started out in life as Stephen Levy. He was 18 when he signed a contract with the Cleveland Indians, but his professional athletic career ended before it began when he injured his knee playing hockey. He spent the next few years as a salesman for a variety of items, then took up radio and TV commercial production. While on vacation in Europe with a friend he landed a bit part in the production of Cleopatra and so, almost by accident, he began his career as an actor. He is pictured as Ben Caldwell in a publicity still for the series Judd for the Defense in the Northernstars Collection. |
