In 2012, Ashley McKenzie attended the TIFF Talent Lab, an intensive five-day professional-development program for filmmakers. In January 2017, McKenzie won the Stella Artois Jay Scott Prize for an emerging artist from the Toronto Film Critics Association for her film Werewolf. The prize, a cheque for $5,000 from Labatt Breweries of Canada, was presented by Atom Egoyan.
