Douglas Rain

Douglas Rain studied acting at the Banff School of Fine Arts in Alberta, and at the Old Vic School in England. Most often seen on stage, he was usually associated with Ontario’s Stratford Festival–he was a founding member of the festival in its first year–as well as Ontario’s Shaw Festival. Usually remembered as the voice of the computer, HAL 9000, in the classic 1968 film, 2001: A Space Odyssey. Douglas Rain is pictured above with Jennifer Dale in a publicity still for the made-for-TV movie Love & Larceny in 1985.
