Born in Kingston, Ontario, Polly Shannon grew up in Aylmer, Québec. Her mother wrote for children’s television so Shannon’s interest in acting started early. Her parents gave her a deadline of 25 to make it or break it as an actress. After acting in theatre as a child and getting through school, her career began when she was 19 when she landed a part in Catwalk, a YTV series about a struggling rock band. She went on to appear in a number of series including the Canadian horror series The Hunger (1999). Her most notable role was playing Margaret Trudeau in the 2002 mini-series Trudeau. More recently, Shannon starred opposite Tom Selleck as his girlfriend Abby Taylor in two Jesse Stone made-for-television movies. Polly Shannon was nominated for a Gemini Award in 1999 for Actress in a Leading Role in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series for The Girl Next Door (1999) and again in 2000 for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series for The Sheldon Kennedy Story. In 2003, she was nominated for a Canadian Comedy Award for Pretty Funny Female Performance for Men with Brooms.
