Vanity started out in life as Denise Katrina Matthews. She became the lead singer of the group Vanity 6 in 1982 and went on to record two albums on her own but was best known for her collaboration with Prince. She had given up the name Vanity and had become a Christian evangelist minister. She was 57 when she died of kidney failure in hospital in California.
