(June 3, 2018 – Toronto, ON) When Les Prix Jutra came to their ignoble end in 2016, a hasty awards ceremony was patched together in February of that year and in October it was announced the new annual awards would be named the Prix Iris. The first Prix Iris was held last year and tonight the second Prix Iris will hold their Gala ceremony which will be broadcast by Radio-Canada starting at 8:00pm Eastern.

Administered by Québec Cinéma, the Prix Iris handed out their behind-the-scenes technical awards on Friday night. A total of 14 Iris awards were presented with 5 of them going to Les affamés from director Robin Aubert, making it the evening’s big Les Affamés, movie, poster,winner. It won trophies for Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, Best Original Music, Best Makeup and was honoured as The Most Successful Film Outside Quebec. It’s up for a few more tonight including Best Picture and Best Director.

Cinematographer Nicolas Bolduc took an Iris for Best Cinematography, for his work on Hochelaga, Terre des Âmes by François Girard, which went on to win three more awards including Best Art Direction, Best Costumes and Best Hairstyling.

Tonight the Gala ceremony will present the top line awards. Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenwriter, etc. Northernstars’ Québec Correspondent Maurie Alioff is at the awards tonight and will file a report on the Prix Iris and other Quebec film news later this week. For now, following are the films and people up for awards tonight at he 2nd annual Prix Iris:

Best Film:

Les Affamés, Boost, Chien De Garde, La Petite Fille Qui Aimait Trop Les Allumettes, Le problème d’infiltration, Les rois Mongols, Tuktuq

Best Director:
Robin Aubert (Les Affamés), Darren Curtis (Boost), Sophie Dupuis (Chien de garde), Robert Morin (Le problème d’infiltration), Luc Picard (Les rois mongols)

Best Screenplay:
Nicole Bélanger (Les rois mongols), Darren Curtis (Boost), Sophie Dupuis (Chien de garde), Robert Morin (Le problème d’infiltration), Gabriel Sabourin (C’est le coeur qui meurt en dernier)

Best Actress in a Lead Role:
Charlotte Aubin (Isla Blanca), Mélissa Désormeaux-Poulin (Le Trip à trois), Denise Filiatrault (C’est le coeur qui meurt en dernier), Maude Guérin (Chien de garde), Élise Guilbault (Pour vivre ici)

Best Actor in a Lead Role:
Christian Bégin (Le problème d’infiltration), Jesse Camacho (We’re Still Together), Patrick Huard (Bon Cop Bad Cop 2), Joey Klein (We’re Still Together), Jean-Simon Leduc (Chien de garde)

Best Actress in a Supporting Role:
Isabelle Blais (Tadoussac), Sandra Dumaresq (Le problème d’infiltration), Micheline Lanctôt (Les Affamés), Brigitte Poupart (Les Affamés), Karine Vanasse (Isabelle)

Best Actor in a Supporting Role:
